BRAZIL
The mission of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of Mercy arrived in Brazil in 1962. Responding to the call of the Church, especially renewed by the Second Vatican Council, the first Dutch sisters came to meet the Brazilian people, moved by the courage of the Gospel and the preferential option for the poor. ![]()
Since then, the Congregation has taken root in Brazilian soil with the same purpose that has inspired it since 1832: to serve with mercy, promote dignity, and be a presence of hope among the most vulnerable.
Today, the Sisters of Charity work in three communities in Brazil, turning their faith into concrete service to life:
Early Childhood Education Welcoming children with love, offering comprehensive education and opportunities for the future.
Dom Helder Camara Foundation Developing social projects that transform realities and strengthen families.
Community Center for the Elderly Promoting care, inclusion, and quality of life in old age.
In addition to their social works, the Sisters are zealously dedicated to the pastoral ministries of the Church, especially:
Pastoral Care of Children
Ministry to Minors
On these fronts, they work in defense of life, childhood, and human rights, being a prophetic voice where life is threatened.
The mission in Brazil remains alive and current because mercy never settles: it always sends us further. Every work, every sister, every collaborator, and every volunteer is part of this story that is renewed daily story of faith, service, and commitment to the poorest.
Our mission is to make mercy a path of liberation and hope.
Here in Brazil, this path continues steadily, open to the future and attentive to the needs of the people.
