Spirituality

In our spirituality, we find in the Gospel the source that nourishes and sustains us. The words and gestures of Jesus of Nazareth guide our way of living, serving, and understanding the world. We are also inspired by the witness of Vincent de Paul and the loving presence of Mary, Mother of Mercy, who invite us to look at reality with compassion, courage, and confidence.

Mercy, Simplicity, and Divine Providence are values that deeply mark our religious life. We seek to give them concrete meaning in who we are and what we do, in constant dialogue with the ways of the Church and with the challenges and hopes of the countries where we live and work. Thus, our spirituality becomes a way of being in the world: open, committed, and guided by the faith that unites us.

Mercy

We just devote our lives to mercy:
step out into the street each day
and meet those in need to lend
our support and encouragement.

Simplicity

Our simplicity is merciful.
We share what is abundant
release what is superfluous
give up what is not required
and cherish what remains.
Our simplicity is light and mild.

Divine Providence

Little works out to how we’d expect:
we might see in this the glorious
workings of the Spirit, Spirit of God
who time and again visits and pursues
us, surprises and tests us with the
strangest and most beautiful things.

Prayer of the Congregation

Throughout our Congregation, from the quiet corners of service to the vibrant heart of community life, this prayer unites us.

It expresses who we are and what we are called to be—women of courage, mercy, and compassion, following the example of Mary, Mother of Mercy, our Patroness.

In every language, in every place, this same invocation rises:
a common plea for courage, openness, and fidelity to the spirit of our Founder.

As one body, we pray that Christ will remain at the center of our mission and that, through Mary's intercession, our hearts will remain attentive to the needs of our world and to the whisper of God's call in every moment.

Mary, Mother of Mercy,
our Patron as Sisters of Charity,
be our example of mercy in simplicity
and openness in service
to the needs of the people around us,
according to the original inspiration of our Founder.

Help us to realize that we have been chosen
to reach out beyond what we are ourselves.

To recognize the challenge to a life of faith
and love expressed in mercy, and,
aware of our own limitations,
to answer that call as a group, together.

Pray for us, Mary,
that your Son may be the centre of our lives,
as we walk into the future together.

Pray for us,
that we may be courageous women,
attentive each moment
to God's call.
Amen.

Our Patron Saints

The Congregation finds its inspiration in Our Lady, Mother of Mercy, whose tenderness and strength welcome and protect all her children with love. She envelops us under her mantle, comforts us in our difficulties, and encourages us to faithfully follow her Son, Jesus Christ. Mary teaches us that mercy is both care and courage, and that serving others is walking with God.

Saint Vincent de Paul, our second patron, is a model of generous dedication to the poor and needy. A 17th-century priest in France, he founded the Daughters of Charity and the Mission Fathers and dedicated his life to educating, welcoming, and caring for those most in need. Vincentian spirituality, marked by humble and loving service, continues to enrich our life and mission, guiding every gesture of care and every work of mercy we perform.

Together, Mary, Mother of Mercy, and Saint Vincent de Paul inspire us to live an active faith, putting mercy into action in all dimensions of our life: education, health, pastoral care, and service to the most vulnerable. Serving with love, simplicity, and courage is at the heart of our mission, making every action a living expression of God's mercy.
