St. Sesilia Community

Location : Yogyakarta, Indonesia

St. Sesilia Community was founded on September 24, 1993. The idea for its establishment arose from the need for housing for SCMM sisters who were continuing their studies in Yogyakarta, a city known as an educational center with many excellent Catholic universities. To realize this plan, the Congregation purchased a house on Cendani street, with the approval of Mgr. Yulius Dharmaatmaja, SJ, Archbishop of Semarang. The house was then renovated to make it liveable, equipped with five rooms and a prayer room.

As a student community, the St. Cecilia community also became a transit home for the sisters. Over time, the number of Sisters increased, so a new convent was built in the Pringwulung area, while the old house was sold. The new community was blessed and inaugurated on May 15, 1999, by Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo, Archbishop of Semarang. In addition to their studies, the sisters are also involved in parish activities such as participating in the church choir, accompanying charismatic groups, neighbourhood prayer groups, and visiting the sick.
