St. Sesilia Community

Location : Yogyakarta, Indonesia

St. Sesilia Community was founded on September 24, 1993. The idea for its establishment arose from the need for housing for SCMM sisters who were continuing their studies in Yogyakarta, a city known as an educational center with many excellent Catholic universities. To realize this plan, the Congregation purchased a house on Cendani street, with the approval of Mgr. Yulius Dharmaatmaja, SJ, Archbishop of Semarang. The house was then renovated to make it liveable, equipped with five rooms and a prayer room.

The St. Sesilia community, as a student community, also became a transit home for the sisters. As the number of sisters increased over time, a new convent was built in the Pringwulung area, and the old house was sold. The new convent was blessed and inaugurated on May 15, 1999, by Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo, archbishop of Semarang. In addition to their studies, the sisters participate in parish activities, including singing in the church choir, accompanying charismatic groups and neighborhood prayer groups, and visiting the sick. Testament to the dedication and loyalty of the SCMM Sisters, who serve with love and devotion.
