St. Matthew Nebe Community was founded on June 25, 1989, as part of the SCMM Congregation's efforts to expand its ministry in Flores. The first two sisters sent there were Sr. Venansia Situmorang and Sr. Filomena Sinaga. Before leaving, they received a blessing from Mgr. Anicetus B. Sinaga, OFM Cap. Upon arriving in Nebe, the sisters lived in a bamboo house behind the rectory. They began their ministry in the field of education by opening a kindergarten, empowering families through family welfare education (PKK), and assisting with parish pastoral activities.
In 1992, the Congregation purchased land near the church and built the SCMM Convent. Although the area was hit by an earthquake and tsunami, the convent remained standing and the sisters were safe. To this day, the St. Mateus Nebe community continues its ministry with compassion and selfless love.
