St. Anna Community

Location : Padang, Indonesia

The St. Anna Community Padang, West Sumatra, was founded on January 1, 1976. This community was born out of the need for a Catholic hospital, initiated by Mgr. Raimundo Bergamin, SX, because public health services at that time were very limited. With the support of the General Council of SCMM in Rome, four sisters were sent to serve at the hospital, and the St. Anna community was officially established with a spirit of loving service.

Over time, the diocese and the congregation saw the importance of a permanent residence for the sisters. So a new convent was built behind the Yos Sudarso Hospital to replace the old house on Jl. Kampung Dobi, which was later used as the location for Xaverius High School. The St. Anna convent was completed and inaugurated on April 1, 1978, by
Mgr. Raimundo Bergamin, SX, together with the leaders of the SCMM congregation.

In addition to healthcare, the sisters are also active in education, family pastoral care, and social work. They teach at Yos Sudarso Kindergarten through Junior High School, serve the parish community, and participate in community activities. On February 5, 1987, they manage the “Wisma Cinta Kasih” Elderly Care Home as a tangible expression of their concern for the elderly. To this day, St. Anna Community continues to work with dedication and love, serving as a blessing to the people of Padang through their faithful and devoted service.
