St. Melania Community

Location : Sarudik, Indonesia

St. Melania Community was founded on February 2, 1993, on two hectares of land owned by the SCMM Congregation with the aim of developing works in the fields of education and health. Initially, the sisters lived in a semi-permanent house that also functioned as the St. Melania Health Clinic.

The sisters' work began with the Clinic and Kindergarten, which started in a simple building that was formerly a barn with 30 students in July 1993. Increased public awareness led to the construction of Elementary School and Junior High School, along with the construction of a new clinic building. Today, the sisters' services have expanded to include a pharmacy, daycare, as well as pastoral activities and faith formation for Catholics and the surrounding community.

In developing their work, the sisters face various challenges and limitations, such as a lack of facilities and funds. Nevertheless, they continue to strive with a spirit of love and dedication, improving facilities and adapting their services to the needs of the community. To this day, they remain faithful and diligent in continuing their educational, health, and pastoral work, which has a positive impact on the society.
