SCMM congregation entered in Tarutung on November 22, 1968. The presence of SCMM in Tarutung began with a proposal from the church administrators and parish council regarding the need for sisters in this area. On November 27, 1967, the first three sisters were sent to begin their work in Tarutung. They lived in a simple rented house without electricity or a well, with very limited conditions.
The Sisters in Tarutung served in the fields of education, pastoral care, and social work with the aim of promoting the spiritual and physical well-being of the community. The ministry of the SCMM Sisters in Tarutung included the management of St. Maria Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Junior High School, the development of St. Maria Girls' Dormitory, and the accompaniment of the faithful through family pastoral activities, catechesis, and choir. All these forms of service aim to support the growth of faith, quality education, and character building of the younger generation in accordance with Christian values.
