In 1975, the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of Mercy (SCMM) established a Provincialate in the city of Sibolga. Over time, the condition of the buildings, facilities, and transportation became a real challenge for the Provincial Leadership Council.
In the Provincial Chapter in July 2001, it was decided to move the Provincialate to a more strategic city so that the national and international transportation networks would make it easier for the Provincial Council to reach all places more quickly, efficiently, punctually, and accurately. The decision was then ratified by Sr.Dymphna Van Wesenbeeck (Superior General) along with other council members, and obtained official permission from Mgr. Pius Datubara, OFM Cap (Archbishop of Medan) on August 9, 2001. In addition, spiritual services were guaranteed through the priests at the Helvetia Pastoral Center in Medan. Finally, the construction of the provincial house was completed and blessed/inaugurated on August 15, 2003, by Bishop Pius Datubara, OFM Cap, and Bishop Anicetus Sinaga, OFM Cap, from the Diocese of Sibolga.
The moving of the Provincialate from Sibolga to Medan also aims to strengthen the unity and spirit of the congregation in appreciating ethnic diversity and congregational identity, in accordance with the SCMM spirituality based on compassionate love. In the new provincialate community, this place also becomes a center for major activities such as: Provincial Chapter, retreats, meetings for Junior, Medior and Elderly Sisters. The members of the Provincialate community consist of the Sisters of the Provincial Council and the Sisters who work in the economat and secretariat. In addition to carrying out their duties and responsibilities in leading the SCMM congregation in the Indonesian Province, the members of the provincial community are also involved in church activities, such as accompanying the Legion of Mary group, accompanying the Divine Mercy group, participating in the neighborhood choir, serving on the Parish Liturgy Council, and accompanying Catholic youth.
The Sisters who are members of the community are as follows:
