St. Katarina Community

Location : Medan, Indonesia

The St. Katarina Community established on January 1, 1978 as a transit house due to its strategic location and access to education, transportation, and better facilities to support the sisters' activities. The presence of this community became a place of study and service for the sisters in realizing the spirit of Christ's love. The purpose of its establishment was not only as a temporary residence or study center for the sisters, but also as a place to strengthen their religious calling and involvement in pastoral ministry among the people.

Over time, the ministry of the SCMM Sisters at St. Katarina has expanded. They are actively involved in education by managing kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools under the St. Thomas Medan Foundation, while also encouraging young sisters to continue their studies at various universities in Medan. In addition to education, the sisters also play a role in family pastoral ministry, catechesis, the Legion of Mary, as well as accompanying choirs and other spiritual activities.

The presence of this community is a tangible manifestation of God's love and compassion, lived out through educational work, pastoral ministry, and community support for the advancement of faith and the welfare of the surrounding community.
